Filter Coffee Brewing Guide (V60, Chemex, etc.)

Filter coffee offers a clean, smooth, and balanced cup that highlights the subtleties of the beans. Whether you’re using a V60, Chemex, or any other pour-over method, this brewing process allows the coffee’s natural flavors to shine, delivering a lighter yet full-bodied experience.

Brewing Instructions:

  • Coffee Dose: 35g of freshly ground coffee.
  • Water: 300g of water, heated to around 93°C (200°F).

Pouring Method:

  1. First Pour: Start with 60g of water for the bloom. Let it sit for around 30-45 seconds to release the gases.
  2. Second Pour: Add another 60g of water and wait.
  3. Final Pours: Continue with three pours of 60g each, waiting for the water to draw down between pours.

This 5-pour method ensures even extraction, enhancing the clarity and depth of your brew, while allowing the flavors to fully develop for a perfect cup of filter coffee.

  • Weigh out 18g of coffee for consistency.

Tamp and Prep:

  • Distribute the coffee evenly in the portafilter.
  • Tamp firmly and evenly to ensure uniform extraction.

Extraction:

  • Start the espresso shot and aim for a yield of 36-40g.

Moka Pot Brewing Guide

The Moka Pot offers a bold, rich, and espresso-like brew that highlights the deep, intense flavors of your coffee. This method is perfect for those who enjoy a strong, full-bodied cup, bringing out chocolatey, nutty, and smooth flavor notes with every brew.

Brewing Instructions

  • Coffee Dose: 20g of finely ground coffee (slightly coarser than espresso grind).
  • Water: Fill the bottom chamber of the Moka Pot up to just below the safety valve.

Brewing Method

Grind the Coffee:

  • Use a fine grind size, slightly coarser than espresso, to avoid over-extraction.

Prepare the Moka Pot:

  • Fill the bottom chamber with water, ensuring it does not go above the safety valve.
  • Insert the filter basket into the chamber.

Add Coffee:

  • Add 20g of ground coffee to the filter basket.
  • Level the surface gently but do not tamp the coffee down.

Assemble the Moka Pot:

  • Screw the top and bottom chambers together securely to ensure proper pressure during brewing.

Heat:

  • Place the Moka Pot on medium heat. Avoid high heat to ensure even brewing.
  • As the water heats, it creates pressure that forces the water through the coffee grounds into the top chamber.

Watch for the Brew:

  • When you see coffee flowing into the top chamber and hear a hissing sound, the brewing process is nearly complete.

Remove from Heat:

  • As soon as you hear a bubbling sound, remove the Moka Pot from the heat to prevent burning the coffee.

Serve:

  • Pour the freshly brewed coffee into your cup and enjoy the bold, full-bodied flavor of a perfectly brewed Moka Pot coffee.

By following these steps, you’ll consistently achieve a rich, flavorful brew that showcases the unique qualities of your coffee. Let me know if you'd like further refinements! 🚀
